Sesame Oil

Sesame oil is a flavourful oil made from toasted or raw sesame seeds. It is commonly used in Asian cooking, especially in stir-fries, marinades, and salad dressings, for its rich, nutty aroma and taste.

There are two main types of sesame oil:

• Toasted sesame oil: Darker in colour with a strong, nutty flavour, it's often used as a finishing oil to drizzle over dishes or add flavour to stir-fries.
• Regular (light) sesame oil: Made from raw sesame seeds, it has a milder flavour and is suitable for cooking at higher temperatures.

Drizzle: Add a few drops of toasted sesame oil over salads, stir-fries, or soups for extra flavour.

Marinades: Mix sesame oil with soy sauce, garlic, and ginger to marinate meats, tofu, or vegetables.

Stir-fry: Use light sesame oil for cooking stir-fries at higher heat, or finish with a splash of toasted sesame oil for a nutty boost.

Toasted sesame oil is best used as a finishing oil due to its low smoke point and intense flavour. It’s ideal for drizzling over dishes after cooking, rather than for high-heat frying. For cooking at higher temperatures, use regular (light) sesame oil.

Yes, sesame oil is rich in healthy fats, including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, and contains antioxidants like vitamin E. It's a great addition to a balanced diet when used in moderation.

Store sesame oil in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, it’s best to use it within a few months for optimal freshness, as sesame oil can become rancid over time.
